Edusat Challenge<\/b> is an educational programme that aims to introduce Earth observation in schools and high schools. The daily availability of satellite images from all over the world facilitates the identification and monitoring of different phenomena of interest involving significant changes in the Earth’s surface, such as forest fires, floods, glacier melting, deforestation or urban growth processes.<\/span> Edusat<\/b><\/a> aims to introduce young people to the study of these phenomena<\/b> using satellite images freely available through the <\/span>Copernicus<\/span><\/a> programme of the European Space Agency (ESA).<\/span><\/p>\n

The programme offers <\/span>training and support for teachers to bring Earth observation to the classroom<\/b>. Edusat Challenge is aimed at teachers of STEAM subjects and Social and Natural Sciences and is open to schools in Catalonia in Primary Education (upper cycle), Secondary and High School.<\/span><\/p>\n

This academic year 2024-2025 a pilot programme will be carried out that includes a <\/span>40-hour blended learning programme for teachers<\/b>, with an online resource area (videos of the sessions, materials, a didactic guide for classroom work, a support forum, etc.). To guarantee the success of the educational proposal, teachers will be accompanied and mentored throughout the process, with training accreditation recognised by the Department of Education and Vocational Training.<\/span><\/p>\n

Edusat Challenge is an initiative of the<\/span> Geographic Information Systems and Remote-Sensing Service<\/span><\/a> (SIGTE) of the University of Girona, within the framework of the NewSpace Educational Programme of the<\/span> NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia<\/span><\/a>, promoted by the<\/span> Secretariat for Digital Policies<\/span><\/a> and the<\/span> STEAMcat<\/span><\/a> programme of the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Government of Catalonia, in collaboration with the<\/span> Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia<\/span><\/a> (IEEC \u2014 Institut d\u2019Estudis Espacials de Catalunya).<\/span><\/p>\n
